This was commissioned by Vogue to feature in the centenary issue celebrating 100 years of British Vogue,

Thrilled to be asked to donate artwork for auction in recognition of Shape Arts’ 40th anniversary.

Shape Arts is a disability-led arts organisation that was founded on the principle that all disabled people should have the opportunity to participate fully in arts and culture, and work with the vision of creating an inspiring and inclusive arts sector that is accessible to all.

To be auctioned are 25 works donated by artists in recognition of Shape Arts’ 40th anniversary this year and the continued importance of the organisation’s work in pushing for a more inclusive and accessible arts sector for disabled people.

Artworks have been donated by Bedwyr Williams, Ben Cain, Bernar Venet, Candida Höfer, Christian Furr, Dora García, Doug Fishbone, Erwin Wurm, Franko B, Grayson Perry, Greg Bartley, Guy Yanai, Hans Op de Beeck, Hito Steyerl, Hormazd Narielwalla, Jake and Dinos Chapman, Jeremy Deller, Julie Umerle, kennardphillipps, Ragnar Kjartansson, Rivane Neuenschwander, Sophie Ryder, Stuart Semple, Tacita Dean and Unskilled Worker

This collection was the subject of an exhibition at the Minsheng Art Museum in Shanghai, alongside the work of Rachel Feinstein, Jenny Holzer, Glen Luchford, Nigel Shafran and others

At first we didn’t know who Unskilled Worker was but upon some research we found out she is Helen Downie who is a self taught artist. She does the most gorgeous paintings. Her portraiture is often naive in execution but has a depth and engaging sense to it.
